Conditions For Installing Plastic Water Pipe Fittings with Solvent Weld Method
1. First measure the pipe length accurately as per the site requirement and cut it using the appropriate tool. Do remember that the pipe must be cut at a 90-degree angle for a secure joint. In case there is a crack in the pipe, make the cut at some distance beyond the visible crack.
2. Then, inspect the pipe end for burrs which can obstruct flow and restrict contact between pipe and fitting socket during jointing. Remove the burrs to make a clean pipe end to secure an easier joint.
3. Next, clean and wipe off the dirt and moisture from the pipe ends as well as from the socket of the plastic water pipe fittings using a clean, dry cloth.
4. Before making the final insertion, first attempt a dry fitting of the pipe and the fitting. Insert the plastic drain pipe fittings to approximately 2/3rds of the way into the pipe to see if it goes in and if it does so without any friction, it implies that the ends are clean and can be jointed.
5. For the connection, the solvent cement must be applied to the ends of the plastic pipes and fittings. Immediately after the application of the solvent cement, insert the fitting till the mark provided on the pipe to ensure secure fit.
6. To ensure even distribution of the solvent cement during jointing, rotate the pipe at a 90° angle.
7. To secure the connection, hold the entire assembly for approximately 30 seconds to secure the pipe and prevent its release. Wipe off any excess cement.
